Main interesting spots in Santiago de Compostela

Most of the main attractive places in Santiago de Compostela are located in the historical center, only 30 minutes away on foot or 8 minutes away by car from our Hotel Oca Puerta del Camino, in the business area of the city. If this is your first time in Santiago, you should not miss:

  • Obradoiro Square. It is located opposite to the main entrance of the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, you will be able to see the statue of Santiago, the Apostle, on his famous white horse.
  • Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. It is the essence and finish line of the Caminio de Santiago, the Cathedral is the main attraction of the city. It is a mandatory visit for tourists as well as for pilgrims. Inside the Cathedral you should see the famous Portico of Glory and the exhibition of the Botafumeiro swinging from side to side of the transept.
  • Pazo de XelmĆ­rez. It is an important building for the civil architecture of the the city attached to the Santigo Cathedral and built during the 12th century.<l/i>
  • The Catholic Monarchs' Hostel. It was built after the Catholic Monarchs visited the city in 1486 to accommodate and attend the pilgrims that ended their Way. Nowadays, the Catholic Monarchsā€™ Hostel functions as a hotel.
  • Pazo de Raxoi. It is a building located opposite to the Catedral, it was built in the 13th century and, nowadays, there operates the Santiago de Compostela City Council and the Government of Galicia.
  • La Quintana Square. It is located in the rear faƧade of the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral and you can get there through the Holy Door.
  • PraterĆ­as Square. It is located in a side of the Cathedral. The baroque Fountain of the Horses stands out in the center of the Square.
  • Alameda Park. It is located to the south of the city, and it is an ideal place to walk around and get a panoramic view of the city in which the grand faƧade of the Cathedral stands out.
